Is Flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Worth It?

Reuniting with Virgin Atlantic UpperClass: A Journey Back to Luxury

by Jeffrey Guard

Some trips are just about getting from Point A to Point B. Others? They’re an experience from the moment you step into the airport. Flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class from JFK Airport to Heathrow Airport is definitely the latter.

After 22 years, I finally reunited with Virgin Atlantic’s UpperClass, and let me tell you—it was like meeting up with an old friend who hasn’t aged a day. From the Virgin Clubhouse to the Virgin Revivals Lounge, this journey was full of surprises, seamless perks, and that signature Virgin Atlantic magic.

Let’s dive in.

The Mighty Magic of Terminal 4 at JFK Airport

If you’re flying out of New York City, one of the best airline tickets you can score is a Virgin Atlantic/Delta codeshare from JFK to London Heathrow. Why? Because you get the best of both worlds—Virgin’s signature style mixed with Delta’s powerhouse presence at Terminal 4.

And that makes a HUGE difference.

JFK Airport is currently undergoing a massive facelift (translation: chaos, construction, and the occasional existential crisis in security lines). But thanks to my UpperClass ticket, I was whisked away to the Delta One Vestibule—a private entrance for Virgin Atlantic Upper Class and Delta One passengers.

Why does this matter?

Because instead of dodging stressed-out travelers and zigzagging through crowds, I walked into a VIP haven—no lines, no noise, just a smooth start to my journey. If there’s one way to instantly feel like a rockstar at JFK, this is it.

(And if you’re curious about just how next-level Delta’s experience is, check out my viral Delta One review at JFK—it’s American airport luxury at its finest.)

Virgin Clubhouse at JFK: Still Got That Rock & Roll Soul

It had been 22 years since I last flew Virgin Atlantic UpperClass, and stepping into the Virgin Clubhouse at JFK felt like catching up with an old friend—one who still throws the best parties.

Sure, the lounge has changed a bit, but the Virgin magic is still alive. It’s like stepping into an aging English rockstar’s mansion—whimsical, stylish, and effortlessly cool.

The iconic red leather couch? Still there.
The fantastic service? Even better.

The moment I sat down, a server greeted me:

“Order from the menu, scan the QR code, or just sit back—I’ll take care of everything. You’re here to relax.”

That kind of effortless hospitality? It’s what makes Virgin Atlantic stand out.

And thanks to Delta’s new ultra-premium Sky Club, the Virgin Clubhouse felt more exclusive than ever. Fewer people. More space. Maximum rockstar energy.

The Upper Class In-Flight Experience: Does Virgin Still Have the Magic?

  • Virgin Atlantic Upperclass Seat: Command buttons

Short answer? Yes.

Long answer? Heck yes

Boarding the plane, I felt that familiar rush—would Virgin still have that signature charm?

Minutes later, my question was answered. The crew was warm, friendly, and effortlessly cool. None of that forced politeness you get on some airlines—just genuine, easygoing service that made me feel at home.

Case in point: I asked for the pajamas, noticed the bag said “Reuse me,” and jokingly asked if I had to return them after the flight.

Without missing a beat, the flight attendant laughed:

“Oh heavens, no! Can you imagine? No, those are yours to keep and reuse!”

That kind of playful, natural interaction? It’s pure Virgin Atlantic.

As for the actual flight experience?

Food = Fantastic.

Seat-to-bed transformation = Seamless.

Comfort level = Sky-high.

Unlike my recent flights with Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines, where I never quite got comfortable despite the lie-flat seats, Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class bed was a dream. Three solid hours of actual sleep. On a plane. That’s saying something.

Once we de-planed, the enjoyable surprise kept coming with anew re-vamped immigration experience! Now, as an American, you need UK e-visa to enter the country. The application process is easy and takes less than ten minutes—but you have to do it BEFORE arriving in the UK. Once you get the visa (usually after 1-3 days) they automatically embed it into your passport.

The London Heathrow Gamechanger!

Once at immigration, there are self-service machines that require you to scan your passport. Once your passport is scanned, the machine takes a photo of you, and in seconds it opens its gates and you are through! This is an absolute upgrade to London Heathrow! There are no long lines and no grumpy immigration officers. If you’re flying into Heathrow often, you will LOVE this new feature. E-visas are definitely the future of travel!

The Secret Weapon: Virgin Revivals Lounge at Heathrow Airport

If you’re an UpperClass passenger landing at Heathrow Airport, do not skip the Virgin Revivals Lounge.

This hidden gem is the ultimate jet lag cure, giving you a comfy space to freshen up, fuel up, and get yourself situated before tackling the day in London.

Now, here’s where my experience took a little turn…

I originally lined up for a power shower, but the queue was longer than expected. Right as I was contemplating how badly I needed that refresh, I got a notification—my hotel room was ready. So, rather than wait around, I made the executive decision to pivot (because efficiency is everything after a long-haul flight).

Instead of the shower, I ordered breakfast—and here’s my pro tip: the menu is solid, but portions are on the smaller side, so order extra. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

The best part? The Revivals Lounge saved me at least an hour. Instead of fumbling around for a breakfast spot near my hotel, I ate there for free , caught up on emails using their Wi-Fi, and mapped out my day—all in a comfortable, relaxed setting.

Once fueled up, I grabbed my luggage and hopped on the Elizabeth Line, breezing straight to my hotel. From there, it was a quick unpack, a proper shower, and I was out the door for my first meeting—completely refreshed and ahead of schedule.

For business travelers, the Revivals Lounge is an absolute oasis. If you want to maximize your time in London, this is the way to do it.

The Crown Jewel: Virgin Atlantic’s Flagship Lounge at Heathrow Airport

Getting to Virgin Atlantic’s Heathrow Clubhouse took a bit of walking (pro tip: there’s a private entrance in Terminal 3 for UpperClass passengers—use it!).

Security? A breeze thanks to the private security line.

But once inside? Worth. Every. Step.

This isn’t just a lounge—it’s a full-on experience:

✔️ Yoga center for pre-flight zen
✔️ Private showers to freshen up
✔️ Rooftop garden (because who doesn’t love a little fresh air before a long flight?)
✔️ Lounge chairs, café-style seating, and even a loft for games

A few old perks (like the beauty salon) are gone, but honestly? The Virgin Atlantic Lounge at Heathrow still oozes exclusivity and charm.

Final Verdict: Is Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Still Worth It?

After 22 years, does Virgin Atlantic still have that magic?

Absolutely.

The Virgin Clubhouse, incredible service, comfortable in-flight experience, and perks like the Revivals Lounge make UpperClass a premium experience worth every mile.

If you’re an Aviation Geek, make sure to check out the Exhibition of over 40 Years of Cabin Uniforms, it’s just outside the entrance to The Lounge, so it’s open to all. They’ve been rockin’ red for over 40 years with some major designers!

Would I fly Virgin Atlantic UpperClass again?

Let’s just say…I’m already thinking about my next trip to London.

If you’re debating whether to splurge on UpperClass, here’s my advice: Do it. You won’t regret it.
