How can a joyous moment be wrapped up in an emoji poop show?
The answer is when you have one of the world’s busiest airports (JFK Airport in New York City) undergoing massive construction, but you still get access to New York City’s BEST new lounge.
That’s the irony: among the rubble and construction lies New York City’s best airline lounge: The DELTA ONE Lounge at John F Kennedy International Airport, Terminal 4
JFK’s Construction Chaos: A Traveler’s Rite of Passage

“An entirely new JFK is being built,” the signs proudly declare. Translation: chaos, frustration, and honking horns for miles. If you thought JFK was rough before, imagine a never-ending construction zone.
My journey began with my Uber limping along to the Arrivals Hall—a maddening detour since the Departures Hall was closed. Honking horns, flustered drivers, and 30 minutes later, I finally stepped out. Dragging my suitcase through the human bottleneck, I grumbled my way toward salvation.
A moment of self-reflection hit me midway up the stairs (because yes, the elevators were packed): how did JFK go from being my symbol of New York dreams when I first moved here in 1997 to this frustrating mess of constant construction and inconvenience? Yet, here I was, ready to forgive all of it for one reason: Delta One.
Pro tip for your next visit: skip the car madness entirely and have your ride drop you at the AirTrain entrances in Jamaica or Howard Beach. Trust me, it’ll save your sanity.
Delta One Check-In: Where the Chaos Ends

As soon as I reached the Departures Hall, I could almost hear the hallelujah chorus. The Delta One check-in vestibule, tucked away at Aisle 1, was calling my name. And here’s the thing: it’s not just a check-in—it’s an experience.
The moment I stepped through those doors, everything changed. Plush carpets absorbed the sound of the bustling terminal. Soft, curated lighting replaced the harsh fluorescents outside. And then there were orchids—elegant, serene, and reminding me to take a deep breath.
A cheerful Virgin Atlantic agent greeted me with a smile that felt genuine (a rarity in airports). She quickly checked me in, directed me toward the exclusive Delta One security area, and wished me a pleasant journey.
The security line? Nonexistent. Just one person ahead of me, and in less than two minutes, I was through. I couldn’t help but flash back to my last visit when Terminal 4’s security line felt like the DMV on steroids. This was heaven in comparison.
Delta One Lounge: First Impressions

Stepping into the Delta One Lounge felt like walking into a hidden world—a place where chaos doesn’t exist.
From the moment you enter, it’s clear that Delta Airlines designed this space with intention. The gilded ceilings, soft boutique house music, and thoughtfully placed cherry blossom arrangements all work together to create a sense of calm and elegance. Even the art feels special, adding a unique personality to the lounge that sets it apart from cookie-cutter competitors like Polaris or Admirals Lounge.
Where Polaris exudes a sterile, corporate vibe and Admirals Lounge feels like a modest upgrade from the terminal, Delta One stands in a class of its own. Every detail, from the lighting to the artwork, tells a story. It’s not just luxury—it’s a thoughtful, cultivated luxury.

What also makes this lounge exceptional is the staff. Every person I encountered radiated warmth and genuine hospitality. They weren’t just doing their jobs; they were creating moments of comfort, helping you feel cared for in a way that money can’t buy.
The Brasserie: Dining Worthy of a Michelin Star

If the lounge is the crown jewel, the Delta One Brasserie is its gleaming centerpiece. This isn’t just airport dining—it’s a full-on culinary experience.
The decor alone deserves a round of applause: marbled tables, champagne-colored wood grains, leather seating, and lighting that makes everything feel polished and inviting.
When my server greeted me, they asked two simple but personal questions: “How are you today?” and “Where are you flying?” It was a small touch, but it set the tone for the extraordinary service that defines this lounge.

The three-course menu was a feast:
First course: Short Rib Agnolotti parmesan, crispy shallot in a creme bordelaise. THAT dish was the star. The beef was tender and perfectly seasoned, and I could have easily eaten 14 more plates of it. This dish could hold its own in any Michelin-starred restaurant.

Main course: Duck à l’Orange served with braised endive, kabocha squash puree in bigarade sauce which was OK. The meat was tender and soft, but the flavor profile wasn’t fully incorporated. I could smell the delicious cinnamon and orange notes from the bigarade sauce, but it didn’t render on the duck in way that made each bite sing. It was OK.

Dessert: Dark Chocolate Soufflé with vanilla anglaise. If you were looking for a diet wrecker this was your choice. Every bite exploded with a dense bittersweet goodness that left me wanting more. The vanilla anglaise, had a sweet custard taste that paired deliciously with the dark chocolate bitter notes.

What struck me most was how quickly the food arrived—perfect for travelers on tight schedules. Yet, if you have time to linger, the Brasserie invites you to do just that.
Amenities That Redefine Luxury
Delta Airlines clearly set out to do more than create a lounge. They’ve created an experience—one that redefines what pre-flight comfort should look like.
The Wellness Center: Massage chairs, professional therapists, facials, and even a steam closet for your clothes. It’s a spa day, but better.
Soundproof Pods: Perfect for private calls, these pods come with lighting and temperature controls.

The Grand Bar with its sleek, Fifth Avenue hotel vibes, reminds me of the kind of elegance you’d expect at The Carlyle—timeless, inviting, and sophisticated. And like The Carlyle, it’s a space you don’t want to leave. The bar reminds me of something from an elegant Fifth Avenue hotel like The Carlyle. It wraps around on both ends of the lounge so that you can access it from either side.

Multiple Lounge Areas: Whether you want a quiet corner to relax or a lively space to catch a game, there’s a nook for everyone.

Art and Sophistication: Delta’s Commitment to Luxury
Delta’s investment in art and luxury is on full display here—and it’s not just at JFK. The Sky Club at LaGuardia offers a similar vibe, featuring incredible works by artists like Glenn Fischer. But the Delta One Lounge at JFK takes it up a notch, with curated pieces from Michael Dumontier, TR Colletta, and others.

This isn’t just art for decoration; it’s art with intention. It transforms the lounge from a transient space into a unique destination. No other Delta lounge will feel quite like this one, and that’s exactly what makes it special.

Final Thoughts: Delta One Is the Future of Travel
The Delta One Lounge at JFK Terminal 4 isn’t just a lounge—it’s a love letter to luxury travel. From the exceptional service to the thoughtful details, every inch of this space is designed to make you feel special.
Is it expensive? Absolutely. But for those fortunate enough to experience it, it’s worth every penny. Delta Airlines hasn’t just set a new standard for airline lounges—they’ve set a new standard for travel itself.
So, if you find yourself flying Delta One, take a moment to savor it. Every bite, every smile, every serene corner of this lounge is a reminder that travel doesn’t have to be stressful. It can be extraordinary. ⏹️
